Phase II The 1960's Hall, with its Verger flat on the first floor, was closed in 2003. The Signpost Sunday morning worship service, which began at St Paul's in May 1994 and had been based in the Hall, relocated to the Holy Trinity site. Demolition of the Hall took place in December 2003 followed by an archaeological dig to discover if the site had any historical significance. Nothing was found.
Construction of the self-contained flats for people with learning difficulties was under the control of architect Chris Richardson of drp Architects, Brighton and the Cheesmur building firm. The flats were formally opened on 26th October 2004 by Jack Saheid, Mayor of Worthing, and delighted residents moved in to their new homes the following week under the supervision care of Southdown Housing Association staff.
Part of the ground floor of this new building is the Community Room with its entrance in Richmond Road. Canon Garry Guinness, chairman of the St Paul's Community Centre Trust and Rector of the Parish (until his retirement at the end of November 2004), formally declared open this Room for general use. The Room with its own kitchen and toilet facilities is in use of Coffee mornings and is hired to local groups for a variety of activities. See 'Community Room' page for more information.
St Paul's Community Centre Trust contribution to the cost of this new building was £80,000 for the Community Room and its facilities. This money was raised from generous donations, legacies, local fundraising events and grants from national charities and fund-holders.
